A chore jacket from Merz b. Schwanen, the German knitwear house founded in 1911 in Albstadt and revived in 2011 by Peter and Gitta Plotnicki. The JKT05 takes cues from early 20th-century European workwear — the same lineage Merz draws on for their loopwheeled tees and henleys — and translates it into a heavier outer layer made for actual wear.

Cut from 100% organic cotton broken twill at 11.2 oz/sq yd. The broken twill weave is the detail to notice: a randomized diagonal pattern that gives the fabric subtle visual movement and a softer drape than standard right- or left-hand twill, while keeping the weight and structure of true workwear cloth. Cured corozo (tagua nut) buttons throughout — a vegetable ivory that ages with use rather than chips like plastic. Three patch pockets, button tab at the collar, triangle gusset inserts at the underarms for range of motion, and a small woven Merz pocket label.

Made in Portugal by one of Merz's long-standing partner factories. The natural tan is undyed or minimally processed cotton — expect the color to soften and the fabric to break in with wear and washing.
