A bucket hat shaped by the hand. From Kapital’s Kountry line, the brand’s garment-washing and finishing atelier in Kojima, Okayama, each hat passes through a process the makers call crash remake. Denim is stitched densely across the crown and brim, then abraded, washed, and distressed by hand until it takes on the quiet patina of something found rather than made.
The fabric is 11.5oz black × black denim, woven with black-dyed yarn on both warp and weft, so the wear surfaces read as soft charcoal against the deeper black beneath. Rows of precise top-stitching run across the brim and crown, acting as both reinforcement and ornament. A structural echo of Japanese sashiko, the mending tradition in which stitch is not concealment but evidence. The shape takes cues from Kapital’s signature Old Man and Umi silhouettes: a tall, softly collapsing crown and a wide, relaxed brim that breaks in further with each wear. A denim strap and metal buckle at the back allow a subtle adjustment.
Because the distressing is hand-done, no two hats are alike. Tears, thinning, and irregular abrasion are part of the design language, not flaws. This is a garment made to look as though it has already lived a long life at sea.
