Jean-Michel Basquiat | Hatje Cantz Retrospective

Regular price $65.00 Shipping calculated at checkout.

The retrospective volume published for the Fondation Beyeler exhibition marking what would have been Basquiat's fiftieth year. Three hundred thirty-four color plates trace an output that ran from graffiti tagged SAMO on downtown Manhattan walls in 1977 to the paintings that made him, at twenty-one, the youngest artist ever invited to Documenta.

Texts by Dieter Buchhart, Glenn O'Brien, Jean-Louis Prat, and Susanne Reichling situate the work in art history rather than only in biography. Basquiat produced an enormous body of drawing and painting in roughly eight years before his death in 1988 at twenty-seven.
