Published to accompany the Los Angeles County Museum of Art retrospective, this volume spans thirty-five years of Nara's work, from 1985 to 2020. Paintings, drawings, sculpture, ceramic figures, and previously unexhibited idea sketches trace how the artist known for solitary, sharp-eyed children grew more contemplative with age.
The book also reads Nara's practice through music. Included are his liner notes on albums from a personal collection of 1960s and 70s folk and rock, published in English for the first time. Edited by Mika Yoshitake, with texts by Michael Govan and Nara himself.
