visvim is the Japanese label founded by Hiroki Nakamura. In his own account of the brand, he set out to pair classic silhouettes drawn from the vintage pieces that inspired him in his youth with modern technical outsoles, and to make products that last, age well and stay in use for years. visvim works with craftsmen who protect techniques passed down over generations, and it chooses its fabrics and construction so that the care behind each piece is something the wearer can sense.
The Skagway Lo applies that approach to a simple canvas low-top. This pair is ivory with a black foxing stripe, a zigzag line around the sidewall and a yellow tab at the heel. The upper is Japanese high-twist cotton canvas with a washed finish. Inside, visvim uses a pigment-free leather lining so the material does not irritate the foot, and a natural cork insole that molds to the foot over time. The Vibram outsole carries a red visvim badge underfoot. It suits someone who wears a canvas low-top most days and wants a better-made version of it, and the ivory and black work with denim, chinos and shorts alike.
