Produced with Studio Ghibli for the Academy Museum's inaugural 2021 exhibition, the first Miyazaki retrospective ever mounted in North America. Three hundred color reproductions of concept sketches, character studies, storyboards, layouts, painted backgrounds, and production cels cover all eleven of his features, including My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle.
Much of the material had never been seen outside Ghibli's archives. Written by Jessica Niebel with a foreword by producer Toshio Suzuki and texts by Pete Docter and Daniel Kothenschulte. A finalist for the Alfred H. Barr Jr. Award.
