Portland has taught us to treasure kitchens that stay put. Thai Peacock has cooked Central Thai comfort on SW 9th Avenue downtown since 1999, recipes carried forward and kept close, dishes made to order the way a family kitchen would.
Find it, and the rest of the city we keep returning to, on sabi's Portland list.
The food
The house calls itself a made-to-order shop, ar-harn tam sung, and the plates come out as they are ready. Dishes work on their own or family style, so a table of friends can share everything.
What to order
Go for a curry and a noodle dish, then add something from the wok. The flavors are clear and familiar, the kind of meal you want again the following week.

Getting there
Thai Peacock is at SW 9th and Oak, an easy walk from the Pearl and from downtown shopping. Street parking is the norm. Hours run 11 am to 9:15 pm most days and to 9:45 pm on Friday and Saturday.
