After years in Portland, the plant shops that stick are the ones that choose slowly. Arium Botanicals on NE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard treats every plant and pot as part of a small collection you can take home one piece at a time.

The shop
Arium fills about 2,000 square feet with tropicals, unusual cacti, and succulents. The room is calm and well lit, and the staff are glad to talk plants with anyone who walks in.
What's on the shelves
The plants share space with pottery, most of it handmade by local ceramic artists. Pairing a plant with its vessel is half the pleasure here, and the shop will repot for you on site.
Caring for what you take home
Ask about light and water before you leave. The team gives clear, specific advice, and that conversation is the best start a new plant can have.
