Some brands announce themselves. Our Legacy just quietly became one of the most influential names in modern menswear while much of the industry was looking elsewhere. Founded in Stockholm in 2005, it turned a set of very un-fashion instincts — thrifting, skateboarding, military surplus, a suspicion of anything too polished — into a language that a generation of designers has since borrowed from. This is how a small Swedish label became a cult.

Stockholm, 2005: three founders and a thrift-store habit

Our Legacy was founded in 2005 by Jockum Hallin, Cristopher Nying, and Richardos Klarén, and it has been based in Stockholm ever since. Crucially, none of them came up through the traditional fashion establishment. Hallin's eye was shaped by Stockholm's hardcore and skateboarding scenes — American subcultures, their music, their uniforms. He and Nying built their sensibility the way a lot of the best dressers do: digging through thrift stores and military surplus, learning what makes a garment good by handling thousands of old ones.

That origin matters, because it's still visible in everything the brand makes. Our Legacy design isn't drawn from a runway fantasy; it's drawn from real clothes that already earned their keep — then rebuilt, distorted, and made strange.

The philosophy: "familiar and irregular"

Our Legacy describes its own aesthetic as living "in the junction between the familiar and the irregular," and that phrase is the whole brand in five words. You recognize the garment — a chore jacket, a button-down, a straight-leg jean — but something is off in the best way. The proportion is boxier than expected. The fabric is doing something it shouldn't. The wash looks like thirty years of sunlight happened in a factory.

Two ideas make it work. The first is custom-developed fabrics applied to signature shapes — Our Legacy is obsessive about cloth, developing its own textiles and finishes rather than buying off the shelf. The second is a refusal to pick a lane: the brand fuses sartorial elegance with rugged, workwear-and-surplus codes, so a piece can read as tailored and beat-up at once. It's clothing for people who find both a pristine suit and a distressed tee slightly boring on their own.

The signatures

A few things Our Legacy is known for, if you're new to the brand.

The Third Cut. Their core jean and the easiest entry point — a relaxed, wide straight leg in a mid rise, cut to be lived in rather than preserved. The washed versions already soften and break toward grey at the high-wear points, so they look worn-in from day one. It's the piece most people mean when they search "Our Legacy jeans." (We stock the Third Cut in washed black — Italian denim, made in Portugal.)

The shirts. Boxy, considered, and cut from Our Legacy's own fabrics — the pieces that made the brand a favorite of the menswear-obsessed.

Camion boots. A square-toed silhouette that became an unlikely signature and a reliable sellout.

The washes and dyes. Piece-dyeing, sun-fade finishes, "antique" coatings — treatments that make new garments carry the patina of old ones. Our Big Longsleeve in Antique Coating is a good example: piece-dyed Portuguese cotton with a sun-fade wash that keeps shifting the longer you wear it.

Our Legacy Work Shop: the experimental wing

Alongside the main line, Our Legacy runs Work Shop — a more experimental, often upcycled and repurposed line that treats materials and archives as raw material to be reworked. It's where the brand takes its bigger swings, including a widely noticed 2023 collaboration with Emporio Armani that mined the Armani archive for '90s-menswear references in leather car coats and shearling. Work Shop is the clearest window into how the founders think: nothing is too sacred to cut up and rebuild.

Made in Europe, sold on word of mouth

For all its subcultural roots, Our Legacy is made with serious craft. The brand produces across Europe — working with Portuguese makers and Italian denim mills — and its whole reputation rests on the quality of the cloth and the construction rather than on logos or hype cycles. Fittingly, it has largely skipped the traditional fashion-week machine, sharing collections through private showings, films, and intimate activations instead. The clothes did the marketing.

That approach worked. Our Legacy grew from a Stockholm cult into a globally stocked label, and in recent years LVMH Luxury Ventures took a minority stake — a quiet vote of confidence from the largest luxury group in the world in a brand that never chased it. Notably, it's one of a small handful of independent-minded labels — alongside names like Japan's Kapital — that major players have moved to back precisely because of their outsider credibility.

Where to start

If you're new to Our Legacy, don't overthink it. Start with a jean or a shirt — the Third Cut is the natural first purchase, forgiving in fit and unmistakably the brand. From there, the washes and knits are where it gets addictive. Sizing runs boxy and relaxed by design, so size with that in mind (or ask us).
